Some Captured Moments

Someone in Uniform

It was an adventure at Balboa pier tonight as a bunch of college students took to the streets in a crazy picture scavenger hunt. God bless all the strangers who helped us complete our lists and to the poor parking attendant who let me serenade him with the entire "Star Spangled Banner." I promise I can sing it better than that.

Come join us THIS SUNDAY @ 1:30pm on the Student Center field for a game of Ultimate Frisbee and THIS COMING THURSDAY @ 7:15pm for our College Group Worship Night. Come worship, fellowship, and play some games with us.

Have a W-O-N-D-E-R-F-U-L weekend!!

The Glory of Gas Games

In case you missed it... *tear*

Gas Games was a Major Success!!!! We had ten competitively-driven teams ready to "Dodge, Dip, Duck, Dive, and Dodge" and score their team some sweet gas cards. We had a tournament of Dodge Ball, Lightning Basketball, Rock Band 2 (Was "Eye of the Tiger" stuck in anyone else's head other than mine?), and the incredible boat race we had across the Mariners Church Lake. Who knew you could make a boat out of cardboard, duct tape, and a trash bag, and safely get across the lake. Oh, wait... It was all good though, it just turned into more of a freestyle/"Abandon Ship!" Thanks to all of you enthusiastic and gutsy Pirates who volunteered/were forced by their team to get into those cardboard masterpieces and paddle through that freezing cold water.

We even had two brave souls volunteers to go BACK IN to get Team Shell's boat which sadly sank to the bottom.... unfortunately, I was not aware that someone had already gone in and gotten our sunken ship. Sorry Bryce and Kristen! But thanks for being such troopers! :)

Here's some of the pictures we took of the event, you can see more photos of this event, and other events as well, if you click on the slideshow to the right of this page.

All the competitors gathering together to hear the rules of the highly anticipated
GAS GAMES 2009!

Dude... this team even made their own shirts!!! Bonus points!

Team Shell... before the sinking...

Two totally pro rockers, even though one of them was watching the wrong side of the screen for two of the three shots. Epic fail, but we still love her :) :) xoxo

On your marks!!!...

It's Sail, Sink, or Swim!!! Bonus points awarded to the team who made it across the Lake the most dry... Still not quite sure how Bryce did it, considering everyone else sank and swam.

Some of the competition!

And the winners are... Team Costco!!

We'll, that's in case you missed it! Come check us out
Thursday nights @ 7:15pm in the Mariners Student Center Room 2.
Sunday afternoons @ 1:30pm for a couple games of Ultimate Frisbee.
Sunday nights @ 7pm in the Upper Room above the Bookstore/Cafe
for the Sunday Night Service.

We promise we won't have you swim across the Lake as an initiation. Right?

I don't have a car... can I get a ride?

I personally am totally stoked for what’s going to be going down with Gas Games. And you should be too! Seriously, you should start your stretches now because Gas Games is going to be AWESOME!!!

Teams are going to consist of 5 people (max), so bring 4 friends you want to be on your team, even a whole other team your team wants to personally challenge to an epic duel. It'll be a showdown and it'll be totally fun. But if you don’t have a team before you get there, no worries. You can still make one there. Just come ready to play in some comfortable clothes and shoes.

Also, do you know anyone from your campus (or another campus) that you think would have an awesome time at this event but doesn't have a ride?! Or you personally are looking at this and thinking, "Dude! That sounds awesome! Too bad I don't have a ride. tear." Let us know! We're currently organizing a bunch of carpooling systems for the surrounding campuses (APU, Biola, Concordia, Irvine, Vanguard, Fullerton, etc) to get those who can't come because of their lack of a car, or just want to split the gas cost. Contact Buddy (bmolway@marinerschurch.org) or myself (kharriso@uci.edu) with the contact info and the school they/you go to, and we will get something working. Also, if you are willing to be one of our drivers, let us know—and thank you!

Remember, Gas Games is not THIS Thursday, but the following Thursday (Feb 26th) at 7pm sharp!

So invite your friends, some wandering freshmen, or the college student you always run into at Starbucks. If you think they might be interested in a little bit of friendly competition, the chance to win some free gas, or just looking for some fun people to spend a Thursday night with, invite them to come. "It's gonna be legend-... wait for it... and I hope you're not lactose intolerant because the second half of that word is DAIRY!"

Gas Games

It's a night of competition and grace. We're going to be getting together for a little bit of friendly competition and some all-around fun games. We're going to be breaking up into teams-- either make a team that night or create/bring your own team of friends. Come dressed in something comfortable (sports attire if you've got it) and get ready to play!

There will be numerous prizes, and if you couldn't guess from the title... GAS CARDS!!! $10, $20, $50?! WHO KNOWS! Show up with your 'A' game, some good sportsmanship, and get ready to rumble!

The Gas Games will take place during the regular College Group which normally meets Thursday nights in Room Two (the upper room) of the Student Center.

Breakdown:
What? Gas Games!
Where? Room Two of the Mariners Church Student Center
When? Thursday, February 26th @ 7PM sharp
Why? Because everyone loves a bit of friendly competition, oh and free gas!
What should I bring? Comfortable clothes/sports attire, a friend, and your 'A' game

And don't forget to bring your game face.
